Default HB 998 Screen going Black at start up

Have had a HB 998 for two years been a great unit, now at start up everything is normal until the view screen is suppose to pop up, but instead the unit screen suddenly turns black, can still see some faint underlying picture on screen. Haft turn on and turn off, or disconnect reconnect several times to get a normal view. When I get a good view, it will work and stay on, but if i turn the unit off again it starts with the same problem. How do I fix?

If you set one of the readouts to display voltage ... what does it say? You might try tweaking the pins on the power connector very slightly.

If the voltage is good, reset defaults on the unit .... although I doubt that will help this issue.... Otherwise, it may be time to look at a Helix 9.

CP, I'm like BobB. Sounds like low power issue. First I would find someone who has a bird with same connector as yours, 800,900,1100 series don't mater. Plug into your unit and see what happens. If that is not feasible, thake the collector apart and remove wires. Install power and transducer cables straight into unit. Take the power plug and install remove and install a couple of times. Then power up and see what it does. Main thing I have seen is the female connectors in the power cable get pushed back a little and expanded on units that get removed and installed a lot. I have one and finally had to replace power cord.

Most likely a power related problem if you can still manage to get a normal display. Might also try power up without any cards in the slots.
