I don't have an answer for you but, have you tried hooking up the transducer to see what happens after it is powered up? Think I would get on the phone to Garmin..

Bought a new garmin echomap 73dv and it will power up fine without transducer, but with transducer plugged in, I can't get it to power up. I checked voltage and everything looks fine. Any ideas?

If the transducer is not a Garmin product. Your unit may not be recognizing it and shutting it down. Garmin released a software update to correct this. Version 6.2 on my unit.
I'm going to have to check that out. It's the transducer that came in the box? I talked to Garmin today and the guy said I need to try and connect it directly to the battery and if that doesn't work, I should take it back, prob a defective unit. He said he has never heard of that issue. He also said that Garmin products are pretty finicky when it comes to the amount of power it needs to start, so if there is an amperage drop, that could be causing it, because he said it needs more power to start up with the transducer plugged in.
