Water temperature readings

I have 2 Lowrance units with separate transducers. one on the stern and one on the trolling motor. when on 2d sonar, neither one shows me the water temp, even though the display has "water temp" on the screen. However, when on structure scan, it does show the temperature. What would cause the water temp NOT to display on 2d sonar? thanks.
