    Default Helix 5 DI?

Ready to pull the trigger on a new Helix 5 in the next day or so if I don't find a used model. My question is though if I get the basic DI model without GPS will I regret it? I mark all my own waypoints on a handheld GPS and have no desire to chart anything. 90% of its use will be towards locating baitfish in deeper water.

Ive got the si with gps and the only reason I did was so that I can find the channel easier on the stumpy lakes I run. But also bought lakemaster mapping card for it. Other than the mapping which I find useful you can do everything else with your handheld

    The difference is $100 ...

I would think that's a reasonable expense for the convenience of having the GPS features in the same unit as the Sonar stuff showing on the display ...

And the added benefit of some really cool features if used in conjunction with a LakeMaster card ...

Yes the HELIX 5 DI has temperature ...(it uses the same XNT 9 DI T as all other HB dedicated DI core units) ...

It does not have a SD Card slot for mapping cards, SD Cards for Snapshots, nor for updating the software thru a SD Card ...

Thanks. That's the way I understood it. I have no need for mapping etc. Use navionics on my phone and mark certain spots on GPS. I'm sure I'll be happy with the step up from my $20 pawnshop special Apelco.

One last question... Is the actual humminbird hardware for mounting the transducer to trolling motor necessary or is that package nothing more than a glorified hose clamp? Thanks

I Have used a handheld for ever . I went with the si unit mainly to find bream beds but the sd cards are well worth the cost . the mapss in the unit are also good .

the trolling motor mounting kit has a bracket that you need for the transducer not just a big hose clamp.
