    Default mounting location

Fairly new to site and am impressed with all the knowledgeable people here. Wife bought me a hb helix 7 si for Christmas. New to higher end sonar products. Where should I mount unit on console or in front of boat? I mostly jig and do some trolling from front.

Since your new to these kind of electronics I would suggest mounting on the console to take advantage of the SI function. Works better at 3/5 mph. Most of your scouting would be done from the console. Then when you get use to it might consider another mount for front of boat.

If you do not anchor a lot,but rather use the finder to hold position over structure, track a weed line or creek channel etc. fishing along you will want it up front. If you find your spot, drop a marker and then fish around it the console would be best.

A finder at both locations is ideal. To work accurately along a ledge, contour change, weed line, hold over a rock, weed bed, or wood structure while you fish it with your trolling motor requires you to watch the screen, work the motor and handle your rod. It is kind of interesting to watch your jig on the screen when jigging right under the beam.

Thanks for the help. If we're to get another sonar what would you suggest? Something in less pricey range.
