Yep...it's time for a new machine and I don't know **** about them. I want to be able to use Hummviewer and Humminbird PC. Does that mean I need special graphics, or big memory? I've never used a Mac, but my daughter loves them. I don't want the cheapest, and can't get the most expensive, so what do you think I should look at? Thanks

Everything I'm seeing online is Windows 8.1.....but this is still the beginning of the process.
Find windows 7 if possible
Laptop for me.

To stay out of a state of confusion, I usually end up with one of each.

Windows 10 is the new one and M$ is trying to get me to upgrade from Windows 7. 7 has the benefit of running like XP use to and you older programs will not run on 7 but not on 8.
In your case sounds like you would not have any old programs to run but I'd go with 10 Or 7 if you can. Get the most RAM you can afford and a large, greater than 500 gig of Hard Drive. Think of hard drive as you storage or file cabinet and RAM as you desk top which allows you to have several programs open at once.

All good info...thanks! It used to be that McAfee or Symantec or Norton came pre-loaded and it would take forever to get rid of them. I'm seeing some kind of security loaded on some now. I've always preferred to get independent security programs....what do you think? I've been using Malware Bites, Avira, CCleaner.
