Default 1197 won't lock in gps

I have an 1197 and when i moving the gps maps will not load very fast I have my track working when i'm moving but on the right upper corner it says mapping loading. I have an external puck but i THINK IT'S in the unit is there a setting to make it load the maps faster,I can go several miles and it won't load

What mapping card are you using in your 1197 fishinfool 4?
Does this happen when the map card is out of the unit?
How many waypoints, routes and tracks do you have?

It just started never had a problem until recently so must be some setting I messed up on. Greg with this unit does it read the maps fast ?? it always seemed slow to me

Export the NAV data to a formatted SD Card and open them in HBPC to make sure the waypoints are safe ...

Then Format NAV directories under the Setup tab ... Test the unit for efficiency ...
(this is what Greg is eluding to I'm sure) ...

Also clear the Current Track under the NAV tab at least once per day ...

    You got it Rickie!

The 1197 loaded map card data fast for its day. Since than, mapping cards have gotten bigger with more and more data. While a Navionics Premium map card should load well, the 1197 may struggle with one of the Navionics Premium map cards. Keeping your waypoints, routes and tracks to a minimum will help as will getting rid of corrupted waypoints. If performing the Format NAV Directories helps, than you may have head too many or a corrupt waypoint or two.

I have to keep my waypoints separated by category (on different SD Cards) just because the 1197 slows down with all my waypoints in the unit library at the same time ...

Remember ... Every time the boat moves ... The map moves with you ...and the map is not in the unit memory so the unit loads the map data live from the SD Card ...

This means a new "view" of the map has to be loaded from the map card every time the map moves ...along with the waypoint data that happens to be in that realm of the display border ...
