Lowrance / Xi5

I just got my new xi5 and Iam in the process of putting it on my boat, what lowrance units will plug in and work the best with the Xi5? LMK thanks

Any HDS unit will. I just installed it on my Lowe yesterday and hooked it up to my HDS 5 as far as the sonar portion.

If Your XI5 has Pinpoint
The built in tansducer that Your XI5 has is only a basic 2D type, although the HDS is recommended to get the most out of the XI5, You have to mount a sc/ds transducer elsewhere on the boat ei. transum. I believe You can use a Elite7 series or better on the bow, running off the XI5's tranducer and link it to a HDS at the helm, which seems like the most affordable setup vs. 2 HDS units!

My elite7 will not communicate with my hds7. Have a friend with same deal. I understand you need 2 hds units with enet between them to trade info between them or the bridge connections and at least one hds to use pinpoint. At my age all this electronic stuff is confusing so make sure you do the double check to be sure. I am sure Tom knows more than I do.

May as well go with everything talking to everything.
you will get there eventually, although I only have 1 Hds unit.
they will get cheaper as Hds 3 gains popularity

I doubt that, I am learning too. But I was talking with the electronic guy at our local Bps about what units to run with the XI5, and I shrugged at the cost of buying 2 HDS units, so he mentioned that I could run a Elite 7 or better upfront and would be able to share way points if I had a HDS unit at the helm. Besides the cost of having 2 HDS units my other concern would be that it would be more better for the bow mounted Depth finder to use the trolling motor transducer, and if thats the case it would have to be a 2d depth finder vs. a sc/ds unit. I mention it would be better because if both df are using transum mounted transducers, and You fish off the front of the boat,
you actually are looking at what you passed 17ft ago.

Sounds like your best option. Check with Brian at BBGMarine first before buying.
