    Default Ricky,promised follow up!

Ricky , Since you were the only one to offer help. Here is what I have tried. Went today, started the day with straightened transducer. 2D was 0.k.DI was still almost non existant. Would go for periods and could not see ANY down scan. I have seen great screen shots on this forum. I haven't seen any on my unit. I did a factory reset and it seemed to play a little while ,then bottom went away and I got NOTHING. The unit is very warm???. I tried both transducers and did not see any major difference. The only thing that I did not try was a soft reset. DI has got to be better on other units or they wouldn't have sold so many. Paid a lot of money (about $700) and I just want it to work like it is supposed to or like some of the ones I have seen on this forum Unless you have some other suggestions. maybe it is time to call Lowrance. I don't know if I would cough up enough cash for another HDI with chirp. (maybe a Garmin Echo 551 dv) At least making the transducer square with the bottom solved the crazy depth problem. Thanks for your help......crappie1133

I did not see your first post so don't know what unit you are talking about. Is it an Elite 7?
On DI what range are you set on i.e. 25 feet, 50 feet etc. (put it in Auto)
Is you transducer in the back on the transom or on the trolling motor?
How is your contrast set up? what percentage. >70%
What color palate are you using. Try Green I think it is #4
Do you have a second unit and are the on ethernet or NMEA.( If it is an Elite I don't think you have ethernet)

Larryb227, It is the Elite 7 HDI . I have the transducer on a stationary mount that my brother made.A couple of things that concern me is it looks like it just quits showing bottom and then starts over again after a rest. The unit gets very warm and never has shown the kind of down scan that I have seen on thus forum. I have the contrast on 68. color palate, white background, and DI is blue. It seens it performs better with sepia. I did a factory defalt reset, but not a soft reset. I guess you can tell I am really disapointed in the whole works. This unit has GPS, and can mark waypoints. I am not into that yet. Thanks for your comments........crappie1133

Any chance of a picture of the transducer mounting?
Are you underway when it loses the bottom?
Unit getting warm is subjective but they do heat up a little.
White background I suppose is the broadband screen not the DI screen
Blue is fine on that screen or sepia
Your contrast is correct for a unit that is working correctly so would bring it up to 78% and see if the bottom is visible.
A factory default is a soft reset. If you have nothing you want to save you can try a hard reset as follows,(hard reset will delete all waypoint, routes etc)
    turn unit off
press the + and - button at the same time and DO NOT LET GO until the unit comes to life. now press the on button and let go of only the on button.
If you are successful the unit will show you full map, and you'll have to zoom in to where you are. If you don't get the full map then try the procedure again.
I hear your frustration so let me know how this works out and we'll go from there. If you have pictures you can send them via PM if you would like.

Larryb227. I don't have any photos. I know that movement will improve the images and I have tried other settings that have been suggested on this forum. My concern is the heat and the fact that bottom will come and go at random. My bottom pictures are not what I feel this unit is capable of producing. I have two transducers( one that Lowrance sent me to try) and I am unable to determine if there is any difference. I will try to go tomorrow and play with it some more, but may call Lowrance and see if they have any suggestions. Since this unit is no longer made, I have not got a clue what the outcome will be. Please accept my thanks for all your help and time I really appreciate it.......crappie1133
