    Default Minn Kota 12 volt trolling motor system


    I have an older fish and ski the battery box as place for two batteries two separate lines coming from it black and red ..orange and black,,,4 prong hook up for the trolling motor prong i can either select 12 or 24 and selecting 12 volt,,,,my question is will that automatically hook the batteries in series for 12 volt operation,,,,rather than parallel for 24 volt.....this is a Minn Kota12 volt trolling motor I'm trying to install....thanks any help appreciated. Tim

    No. It will not place them in series or parallel. It only allows selections of 12 or 24.

    Let me find a drawing of the 12/24 plug. Best to tie the 2 blacks together and the orange and red together. This will give you better ampacity.

    This is what you should have if you have a true 12/24 system.

    There is a 3 wire configuration of 12/24 also. Need to make sure what you have before anyone can help you much.

    even more confused than I was just don't understand the orange black coming from the battery box ,,, battery hookup and a black red both running to the front

    I did just what CP said. 2 blacks to one pole on 4 prong female for ground orange and red to another prong for positive. Then wire male plug to match. Then run 2 12 volt batteries Hooked positive to positive and ground to ground.
