On the Si model units you can elect to display only the Water Depth and Temp in the lower right-hand side of the display. This is the SI Readouts feature.

This is not a Humminbird versus Lowrance post. I have been looking into a Humminbird unit and my biggest draw back is the overlay strip on the left hand side of the screen. I don"t think their is anything that can be done, but, live with it.It seems that you pay for a larger screen, only to have part of it used for other information. Maybe this is not a distraction and maybe you will not notice it and learn to accept it. You guys that have these units probably don't even notice it and maybe I would be the same way once I used it regularly. If this weather doesn't get better I am going to do something that I may regret. I need to go sit in my boat for a day. I don't even care if I catch any fish.......Spring is almost here.Pass it on to the weather man.....crappie1133

Just get an 11xx or an Onix ......![]()
Greg, I know you have been asked this before and don't mean to beat a dead horse but what is the idea behind such large numbers and the inability to remove?

On the Lowrance HDS units you can change the size and position of the overlay data. Would have thought HB would have similar features??
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men
Thanks to everyone for your comments. I am very sure Humminbird makes great units, but this is a deal breaker for me. This has been going on for several years. I am not a software wizard, but if Lowrance, Garmon and Raymarine can make sonar units that do not take up a portion of the costly screen size , then Humminbird can too. I am interested in Humminbird Greg's responce, maybe there is a good explanation. Seems like a lot to pay and have part of it taken away. I am sorry for my thoughts. See what happens when you can't get out to fish!................Fishing is just around the corner.....crappie1133
Not really sure where the problem is you are talking about. You can remove lines and all in settings. As far as the depth goes it isn't in the way and you need to know what depth you are in.
It is my understanding that this is not just an easy software fix and that it would take a major re-write of the software.
You can do just that on the Helix models...clear all the side readings so you have your 2d or imaging w/o the clutter
