    Default Help Garmin 76 GPSMaps

Some knowledgeable guys suggested I add a Garmin 76 GPSMaps to help in fishing. One runs two in addition to his HB SI unit with gps. I have two HB units (two pucks) interlinked, plus a eagle with GPS already on the boat. Could use the hand held for other things also.

Not sure if I want the 76, 76s, 76cs or 76csx, prices run from 100-260. Would like some suggestions and ideas. Thanks

I've used the GPSMAP76Cx for years & even though it sits next to a HB1197, I never fish without the GPSMAP76Cx. After many many hundreds of hours, the display developed a dead spot so I decided to move up to the GPSMAP78. With the two units side by side, I still prefer the 76. Unless it's a budget buster, go for one of the models with a color display.

These units use two AA batteries. If you fish often, get 4 rechargeable batteries and a charger. Most days you won't need to swap them out, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Do you guys use additional maps like Topo, Roads & Recreation, Lakes with fishing hotspots, or just the standard map that comes on it. Thanks

I have fishing hots and inland lakes installed on mine.If you use only the base map , that comes with the gpsmap76, there will not be any contour lines and also , if you use the gps for navigation at night or in fog were you can't see, it won't be accurate. (WWith the mapsource products installed, that I mentioned above, you can follow nav.mnav.markers on the water)I think that I have roads and recs. also
