It it is accurate. You've got the maps loaded that you need, but if you go someplace you've never been there won't be any maps.

In the first post you where talking Having to use data and needing a data plan......... Thats what I was referring to......... I can drive to Indiana cruise into the local Mcdonalds use their free wifi to download the map of your area.......You just do not need a data plan.
If you decide to do this be sure the iPad you get has a GPS receiver in it. If I understand it correctly the only ones that do are the ones that are capable of using wifi and cellular. I've been told the ones that are wifi only don't have a GPS receiver in them.
We have trouble seeing the screen outside on the ipad. We are looking at wireless video from an underwater camera. I don't know if maps would show any better or not.
Another option is an android tablet........you can get one of those with gps way cheaper than a ipad, If you get a ipad you can only load it for free on a second apple device......Same goes for Android.....
Downside of android is I am not sure if they have lifeproof cases and mounts for android.......
I use it on my Samsung Galaxy 10 and it is fantastic. It did cost $50.00 but it is amazing. You do not need a cellular connection all you need is GPS capabilities which is the only reason I went with the Samsung 3 years ago. It was the only on with GPS. I used to velcro the Galaxy to my dash while running and then move it up front with me to get on a spot. I would definitely recommend this app.
