I just brought the Helix 5 SI this week. Got it installed on the boat yesterday. I have been playing with it setting it up in my driveway. So far so good. I will say that from a price point for $499 you will not find the features in any other brand or unit out there. You will probably have to buy a Navionics or lake master card as the HB pre loaded maps aren't that great. I just got home from Cabelas with the Navionics Hotmaps Premium. Im about to go pop it in and see whats up! I will keep you posted on it, Im going fishing tomorrow and will be putting it to the test in the Louisiana Marsh.

I will snap some pics, I will be in the marsh fishing for reds and specks so wont be much structure, but should be some good bottom contours. I was just messing with it in the yard, its not to hard to work once you get it set up.

Great, Keep the info and pics coming. Sounds like a very user friendly FF and like you said a great pricepoint. Maybe this is the "Kindle of fishfinders".

Hopefully it will turn out to be a great unit. I went to a hummingbird seminar the other day and I had a buddy showing me how to use them. When another guy walked up to my buddy and told him he was selling his 998 for 500$. I shook his hand and said sold.

I used it this weekend, I will try and upload some pics this afternoon. It worked well, still have some learning to do.

The mapping is not that great in the south la marsh, even bought a Navionics HotMaps Premium card. all and all I like the unit though. Cant wait to get in the swamp and find some brush piles and lay downs
