Default Anyone have a Garmin 551 DV

I have a Elite 7 HDI on the bow of my boat. I was thinking about adding a Garmin 551 DV to the back. Should be easy to install and could be used by fisherman on the back. I already have GPS on the bow unit. I think regular 2D and DV on the back would be cool. Is this a good unit ? Is there something I should know? I already have another HDI transducer for the Elite 7. Would I be better off to purchase a Elite 5x HDI w/o the transduce. The Garmin would be a little cheaper, I am just not familar with that unit.....Thanks everyone for any information.....crappie1133

Don't think that just because you don't get a dozen replies within 24hrs, that your question/subject matter are not "popular" or important. This time of year there is a slowdown, and even during the heavy traffic times you may have to give the members a few days to see your post and reply ... especially when the question or subject matter is this specific.

Also ... a quick Google search for prices of the two units you mention tells me that the Garmin 551DV runs about $275 .... while the Elite 5x HDI w/o tdx runs around $234

    Garmin price link : Garmin Echo 551dv Fishfinder W/4-Pin All-In-One 77/200 Khz Hd-Id/Downvu Transducer

Elite 5x HDI price link : Lowrance Elite 5x HDI Fishfinder No Transducer | NAV MARINE 888-662-2959

And you may even be able to purchase either of these units cheaper than that, if you check with Brian@BBGmarine (site Member Sponsor).

crappiepapp, Thanks for the information. I thought I had picked a bad unit. Still not sure which way I want to go.I thought someone with one of these units would speak up and give some positive input about one of these units. Thanks again......;crappie1133

I have a garmin Echomap 70DV. Same down imaging technology, and same transducer. Here's a couple pictures. The bridge picture is a little blurred due to me stirring up the water looking for it.Name: garmin70dv1 00.jpg
