    Default Update Problem 1199 hdsi

I have done numerous updates to my old 998hdsi . I have a 1199 hdsi. I turn on the unit reset to defaults and shut it down. Put the 8 GB card that is formatted to fat-32 with the file on it. Turn it on. It comes on with the green screen i select upgrade option and then when the red page shows up i select no that i do not want to abort the operation. it then restarts and asks me if i want to do the same thing over again. I checked the software version and it is still the 6. something. I talked to hummingbird last summer and they did't have any idea but it would cost me to send it back. I didn't do anything wrong. Has anyone had this problem. I will send it back if I have to. Is this card to large? I know the largest card i can use to upgrade the touch is a 1 GB. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Don

I had some problems with the PNY sd cards and i went to the SanDisk card and used Humminbird PC to format the 16GB card for my 798ci hd unit. The file size seems to be alright. It could be the card reader not making connection?

It is possible. I ordered two cards today 512mb and 1 GB they are san disk. I tried again a minute ago. If they don't work I will bite the bullet and send it in. I bought it last May and tried to update it then and it didn't work but was using the same cards. Hummingbird pissed me off when they told me I would have to pay for the repair and it was two months old. I have 225 hours on it since May. It works perfectly but I am going to install the 360 and will be going to a Ulterra when I am sure the bugs are gone.

I would try the new cards after formatting, also download the update again. I don't understand why Humminbird is going to make you pay for it with it under warranty. Also I don't turn the unit off to install the card, I put the card in after restore defaults with it on.

Yes your right. I went out and tried it that way and I get the same results. It looks like everything is right, It tells me it is installing the update, when it restarts it finds the card and wants to install it again. It just doesn't want to load.

Are you attempting this update with the unit in Normal ... Forced Simulator ... Or Demo Simulator mode ...??

If you have it connected to the Ethernet, you might try to disconnect it before doing the update.

I usually run the update with nothing connected except power and go to forced simulator mode. I think Humminbird is recommending to have the unit fully started up before inserting the update....It used to work either way, but a few releases ago, they started recommending starting it up first.

Duplicate or corrupted waypoints is another thing that can cause issues. This was so prevalent for a while that they were even recommending backing up the waypoints and then clear all nav data before doing the upgrade......Make absolutely sure you have a good backup before deleting nav data.
