I can't remember my exact settings, but with my first gen 1 unit I didn't have any complaints with the same TM and ducer. I upgraded to HDS10 gen2 at the console and moved my 7 gen1 up front and it hasn't looked right on the 2d sonar since.

Select "generic 83/200" from the transducer list, it's in the installation menu. also make sure the fishing mode is set to "shallow water".
