Depends on your future needs of linking units ...

Elite is NMEA sharing only i believe ...

HDS can share just about everything ...

The Touch is $849 more than the Elite at BP? IMO the Touch unit is far and away a better unit than the Elite, it's like comparing a Yugo to Cadillac. Call Brian at BBG Marine, I've bought three units from him over the last few years and he has beat everyone's prices. Also, Lowrance has some rebates going on now.

The HDS is a way faster processor than the Elite. I like my Elite, but you can scan and zoom way faster with the HDS.

You should definitely check out BBG Marine. I was just checking out the 7touch last weekend and it was $869.00 without a transducer. I think the one with the 2d ducer was about $50.00 more. With the rebates that Lowrance has right now you can get up to $300.00 off of touch units when pairing them with certain accessories.
I ended up getting a 9touch with a point1 and an HDI transducer so I could do downscan and sidescan off the bow of my boat.

I have both the Hds on the console and the Elite 7 on the Bow. I had the elite 7 first then upgraded to HDS7 touch and I belive the side scan is worth its weight in gold. I got mine from BBG marine last I checked the HDS came down to around 1200 I am pretty sure BBG would have the best deal. Also keep in mind the newer Elite 7 also have Chirp technology which I think cast a wider cone for a better picture.
