Default A tidbit for HB owners!

Just thought I would pass this along.

Short story if your HB unit is freezing up, check your SD card, it may have gone bad or corrupted.

Long story, 958 was freezing up usually after marking a way point. I have snapshot turned on. I had just gotten through managing a huge amount of waypoints and was confident they were good. However, looked through 6000+ waypoints and couldn't see anything bad. Thought maybe it was the ethernet hub as I have the units 958 and a 1198 networked. Cut the power to it and let it set for a while. Still not working.

reformated nav directory, reloaded waypoints, nada

    restore defaults, nada

Still freezing up! Bear in mind I have been using the same SD card since I bought the unit. After perusing the CDC forum a thought came to mind to change out the SD card! Happened to have a brand new one in the truck.

About 25 waypoints since I changed the card and haven't had one issue since. I don't know that the SD card is bad, however the unit is working fine now, but I am assuming that it was a bad card.

Hopefully this will save someone some time in the future. I dislike problem solving when I could be fishing!

This is the exact thing that happened to me a year ago. Screenshots would cause it to lock up. Tried just marking spots and would mark 5-15 spots before it locked up. Rather than sending $200+ to HB to get it fixed, I just broke out the Lowrance handheld. I will try a new SD card and see what happens!

You can also try performing a full format on the SD card and try it again. Most formatters default to a quick format. Take the extra time and perform a full format and see if it helps.

Might have something to do with the 6000+ waypoints. That's twice the capacity of a single unit. I had the same problem until I broke my waypoints up into separate regions.

I had split up the way points before this, that was not the problem. The 6k is just what I have in HBPC, not in the card. Good thought though.

Greg that is what I have had to do 3 times. After formatting the cards they work same as a new one. I keep three in the boat, one in both units. Then one for a backup. Love my humminbirds, but thinking about trying something new this time around.

Sometimes it might be a bad waypoint and you won't see it unless you load it from humminbirdpc.
