    Default 2014 IPilot Terrova problem

I recently purchased a new boat with the Terrova IPilot 36V 112# thrust TM.

The new style remote that comes with it has to be charged everyday after trip, using the cable that comes with the unit. It comes with a USB cable that plugs into an adapter that plugs into a 110 outlet. My adapter lasted for 1 1/3 charge then quit. Luckily I have others floating around the house and could finish charging the remote.

    My complaint is twofold.....

    1. There is no "rabbit" function on the new remote (I actually liked it.)

    2. But most troublesome is the fact that if I turn the speed anything over 7 on either the remote or the foot pedal wheel, the TM runs for a matter of seconds then shuts itself off.

I thought it was fused too small (dealer had installed a 40 amp breaker) so I replaced it with a 50 amp breaker. Still had the same problem. And upon checking the resettable breakers, found they had never tripped.

In an effort to isolate the problem, I removed the breaker altogether. It didn't change anything. The TM still shuts off after 15-20 seconds running over 7 on the remote or foot pedal.

    3. And when I have the anchor lock on, it will sometimes just shut itself off. I had the boat in the middle of a marina port to get it out of the docking area, while I was on the dock talking to a coupla guys. I had put the anchor lock on to keep it out of traffic and off of the small dock. After about five minutes, I noticed it had drifted about 40 yds off of where I had locked it. Looking at my remote, I saw that it had shut off so I had to reposition the boat and resume anchor lock.

    Anybody else have these problems?

I'm thinking about putting my old model 101# Terrova IPilot (2010) from my old boat onto the new boat and putting the new one on the old boat. The remote batteries on the old model last for a year, no recharging them. The new remote is big and bulky, always turns to face your body when wearing it around your neck (which I wear mine ALL DAY) so anytime you go to use it, you have to turn it around.

You have to change screens (like a computer) if you want to record a track, find a track, or stop tracking.

Any thoughts from people who have and use the new 112# Terrovas?

Don't know anything about that new remote, but I have had mine shut itself off when on anchor lock. Don't know what causes that. I'm wondering though, instead of changing motors first I would take my old remote and try learning it to your new motor. That should work.

There is a rabbit option, when you mash the up or down on the speed you will given an option for 5 or 10, 5 being half throttle, 10 being full blown rabbit, I really like this.
number 2 I have no idea about, call Minn Kota.
Number 3 is easy, there is a time out feature on your remote in the settings, must be set on 5 minutes. turn it up, mine is on 15 and a couple of times long lining the other day mine had turned off.
I also just put a 110 converter in my boat and keep the cord and remote hanging in the storage box, got to charge it if you fish a long day, mine quit during the tourney the other day because I forgot to put it on charge, luckily the the cord was long enuff I could plug it to the converter and get back going.

Yup, tried "learning" the old remote. No go.

Called MinnKota service. Said they hadn't heard of the "shutting off while trolling" problem. Advised me to take it to repair center near (1 hour away) me for warranty repair.

The "auto off" feature is set at 30 minutes. But that shouldn't be a factor since the motor was constantly adjusting position in the anchor lock setting. The auto off is only for when the motor gets no commands for a set period of time. I used it for hours yesterday set on the 30 minutes setting and never had to "restart", reset, or reboot" the remote.

Then I don't know, mine has worked well and I really like the remote too, no more accidental rabbits!!!!

It's dropping voltage somewhere. What size wire is run and for how long? It should be run on circuit breakers only with no need for fuse! If it has a plug, it may be loose there. Check wiring for loose connections from motor to batteries. Should be two circuit breakers, with two power wires run up front on a 36 volt. I don't like those remotes either. You can swap the link with the Ipilot on your other trolling motor. If you swap motors, I think you will still have the problem. Sounds like its in the wiring. Check that all batteries are good and connected properly/tight. I know it's new, but it is common to have to get bugs out of the rigging of a new boat.

Well, checked the wiring. It has 6 gauge running from battery to TM female receptacle. TM only has 8 gauge from MinnKota factory to plug so have to assume 6 gauge is sufficient. Have the same wiring configuration on my bass boat with no issues such as this. All connections are tight as is the plug/receptacle.

Had all three batteries checked and all are good, no problems with the batteries. Guess I'll take it off and give it to the repair guy. In the meantime, I'll put the old TM on the new boat and, hopefully, cruise on, til I get the new one back from the repair shop. And, hopefully with an explanation of WHY it is doing what it is doing.

Thanks for all the advice, some used, some not. Appreciate the fact that y'all pitch in to help a fellow angler!

Breakers were removed, wired direct. No change.
