    Default Lowrance Elite7 hdi chirp

Anyone know anything about CHIRP? I was goin to buy the regular hdi but this chirp looks alot better. Is it worth the extra 100 dollars? From what ive read it sounds realy good.

All you ever wanted to know about CHIRP...

    http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-e...explained.html

CHIRP has been in the blue water market for some time because of the CHIRP technology's capability to get good target separation at deeper depths...

Companies are just now experimenting with offering CHIRP in the shallower fresh water market...

Time will tell if there is a distinct advantage with CHIRP over regular tone burst sonar technology in our water's enviroments...

    Interesting for sure...

Based on Ricki's comment about deep water target separation, if you fish deep, then it could help, but apparently its unproven in shallower water.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Thanks Rickie! (i think?) i might be even more confused by all that technical stuff. From what i read in the final summary it works better in shallow water (less than 100ft) with the transducer being used. I think im goin to bite the bullet and buy it someone has to be the guinea pig. I will give a review once i get it installed and the lakes decide to thaw.

    Cewlbeanz....post up some pix ASAP...

We are anxious to see this new shallow water CHIRP....to see how it stacks up to the present technologies...

I feel we should all chip in to help with this experiment.
Where can Rickie send a check?

    Rickie
That goes into great detail, but here it is in more simple terms,

Instead of sending just 1 single frequency, CHIRP sends a continuous sweep of
frequencies ranging from low to high. CHIRP sonar technology then interprets
frequencies individually upon their return. Since this continuous sweep of
frequencies provides CHIRP with a much wider range of information, CHIRP sonar
is able to create a much clearer, higher resolution image.

But the fact is what you see on the screen will not look much different than what you see on the screen now, if you see any difference at all.
Lowrance Broadand sonar is hard to beat, but you can spend a lot of money trying!!!
