Default Opinions wanted: get it fixed or get a new one

My Lowrance depth finder that I bought used for $50 won't turn off. It will turn on, but I have to turn it off by turning off the main power switch on the dash of my boat.

I have not called Lowrance, but I know that if the thing won't turn off, it won't be long before I go out and it won't turn on. Just bought it and put it on last summer, but it was used in the original box.

Has anyone ever sent one in for a repair, or is it even worth it? Any opinions welcome. Thanks. GTT

I guarantee you it will cost more than 50 to have it fixed even if they will work on it. What model is it?

About guaranteed they won't work on it. It's usually the power button itself that fails. You can sometimes work around it by soldering wires on it and putting a small switch on the side of the unit to replace it.

Lowrance doesn't do repairs. They will offer a trade-in allowance toward the newer version of the unit. What unit is it?

If you only paid $50 for it, toss it and either buy a new one or another used one from a reputable seller.

Low, won't fix anything. Had one that did that. I did just what you are doing. Finally got mad one day and went to pushing the button real hard several times and it went to working. Not a recommended procedure. I would just wire in a switch on power line to cut it off. If you like the unit and it performs like you want it to just keep using it. I, like kosmo have a couple of X125's that filled with moisture and Low just told me to throw away and upgrade.

If you shut the power off that way, the unit will never save any settings.

There are currently 2 different new x51pro units on ebay. Does anyone know if a x51pro will just unplug and plug into all the wires and lines on my x50ds? If it's that simple, I think I'll just do that. GTT
