    Default Humminbird - GPS disappeared

I have a 597ci HD DI that I've had for a couple of years using it with the lakemaster card. Has worked like a charm until.... I was going to upload waypoints I downloaded from MDC. Before I uploaded them, I turned on the unit without the lakemaster chip and there were no GPS screens. I double clicked the menu and there are no navigation or chart tabs at all. I was going to call customer service, but I figured they'd just tell me to put the latest software update on it first so I went ahead and did that. Worked fine, uploaded the new waypoints, fine, still no nav or chart tab and no GPS screens. I put the lakemaster card back in and it seemed to be ok. I left for the lake. 3 hours later I"m sitting at the ramp and no GPS and nothing I do can get the charts/nav tabs and the GPS screens back. I really need this functionality. I called HB support and of course they are closed at 4:30 and don't open until Monday. I really hope there is something I can do to resolve this. Please help.

    THanks in advance,
    Kyle

Try pulling the head unit from the quick attach mount and re-attach...

I have no idea why sometimes this works with an internal antenna...

If it does not start working there is not much you can do about it besides sending it in to be looked at by the Humminbird Service Techs.

I tried detaching the quick connect and re-attaching it, It does have the internal GPS so there is no puck attachment to check. I dont know, it just seems to have lost GPS capabilities completely. If I put it in Simulation mode, all GPS related menu tabs are there and I can change them and so forth, but when I take it out of simulation mode, all GPS menu tabs are gone as are all GPS related views. It's the weirdest thing. It just started happening with no warning. I tried to re-apply the update and it says that the software is up to date. I tried loading the waypoints again and it says they're already there, though I have no way to know that since there is no waypoint menu option. The mark and goto buttons make the error noise when i push them. I'm at a loss so I hope I can make it home today before customer service closes.

I was planning on replacing this unit next year with an 900 series or something like that with SI....NEXT YEAR because I bought an 859 for the bow a month ago. I was using that unit for my GPS this weekend on the lake, but it kept losing GPS fix even when I was running down the middle of the lake of the ozarks and there was no cloud cover, it lost the GPS fix about as much as it had it. I was really hoping to get another Humminbird unit, but I rely heavily on the GPS so if its not a config issue and their GPS just sucks, I'll go with a Lowrance instead.

Mine did the same thing. But mine is brand new. The first time out GPS worked great but second time out no GPS at all! I tried everything from restoring defaults to battery connections etc... I sent it back to HB last week to get them to check it out. Hope to have it fixed or a new unit back soon.
