Default Lowrance Elite 5 to Replace/Upgrade My X102c

I currently have a Lowrance X102c mounted on the bow of myboat. It is a great unit and I’velearned to read it well. I have come tothe realization though that I find 80% of the structure / fish while sitting atthe bow pushing lines. This unit doesnot have GPS and I’d love to be able to mark these areas more conveniently.

I have a Lowrance LC X-26c HD on the console but it is areal inconvenience to relocate to the console while fishing and it is normallytoo late to mark anyway.

I’m thinking on replacing the X102c with a Lowrance Elite5HDI Combo. This unit has some featuresthat I think I’d find useful. GPS ofcourse and, the Trackback feature would be really nice. DownScan Imaging appears to provide moreuseful information and leads to my question.

I have the X102c transducer (83/200 kHz) mounted on thetrolling motor. I read somewhere, and Ican no longer find it, that the blue connectors are interchangeable between Lowranceunits and I’ve found the Elite 5 for sale without the transducer. Is this correct about the blue cabling connectors? If so, will the DownScan Imaging work withthe 83/200 or will I need to replace it with a transducer that will go 455/800?

Depthfinder/GPS has come a long way in the 8-9 years since Ipurchased the units I currently have.

Any help or other suggestions will be appreciated.

You'd probably better ask someone with a little more knowledge than I have ... but, I believe the 83/200kHz signal is strictly 2d broadband sonar, and the 455/800kHz signal is DI/SI sonar. That would tend to make me believe that DI won't work with 83/200.

HDI units have 2d & DI ... so they would need to have a transducer capable of sending/receiving both sets of signals.

You'd probably find a Elite 5HDI unit + transducer for a good price, by contacting Brian at BBG Marine (site member/sponsor) http://www.bbgmarine.com/ He may even be able to beat the "sale" price you found

Here's his latest classifieds ad on this site - http://www.crappie.com/crappie/showt...now-available-! .... and you can always contact him by PM, from Crappie.com.

    Thanks for the reply CrappiePappy.
Like you, I do believe this to be the case. Especially the more I read about it. Thought I might get lucky and save a few bucks.

I've shot Brian a PM with a question about this unit. He does have a good price on the unit w/ transducer. Thanks for that as well.

sc triton, the 83/200 htz will work But will not show DI . In order to get DI you will have to have the 83/200-455/800 hybrid transducer. If you mount on the trolling motor, you will have to be moving slightly( 1 to 3 mph). I have a 83/200 transducer on the transom and it will only show the transducer frequency you put in in the menu setup.( 83 or 200)...hope this helps! send me a PM if you need further help....... Good luck.....crappie1133

    crappie1133,

Yeah I thought the 83/200 might work but wasn't sure about the DownScan which I now know will not.
Have a complete unit coming from BBG Marine. Can't wait to try it out!

SC Triton, I utilized my 83/200 by placing on the back of the boat e/w switch to toggle back and forth. When using the older transducer it will give bottom information. Just rermember that what ever screen you are using will display that on the back also.....crappie1133
