    Default Humminbird updates

I'm having a heck of a time doing the update on my 998c. I think I get it downloaded to a sd card and install it in the unit and nothing. I've watched how to you tube videos and still can't get it. Anybody else have this problem or have a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

a friend said we need a 12 yr old and a 12 pack. 12 yr old to setup the electronics and 12 pack for us

Copy update to SD card. Turn on 998. Insert card. Select yes to update.

    On your PC...

    *Open My Computer
*Insert SD Card in PC Card reader
*Double click the drive letter for the SD Card
*The file name for the update should be a lot of mumbo jumbo followed by ".bin"

If this file is not on the SD Card ...the download to the card did not complete correctly...

If this file is on the SD Card ...:

    *Power on the HB unit...
*Export all your NAV data to a separate SD Card
*Open this SD Card in HBPC to verify the NAV data loaded to the card
*Format NAV Directories under the Setup tab on the HB unit
*Restore Defailts under the Setup tab
    *Power Off the HB unit
*Disconnect xducer, GPS antenna, Ethernet, any other accessories
    *Remove any map cards
*Power on HB unit in Forced Simulator Mode
*Insert SD Card in HB unit card slot
*If the .bin file version is different than the version currently on the unit, there will be a popup asking if you want to update to the different version...
    *Cursor right to select "Yes"..
*A popup will ask if you want to abort update
    *Cursor left to "No"

DO NOT TOUCH THE UNIT DURING UPDATE....

When the update completes, there will be a popup that says "No Update Required"...

    *Remove SD Card
    *Restore Defaults under Setup tab
    *Power off unit
    *Connect xducer, GPS antenna, Ethernet...etc
    *Power On unit
*Restore Defaults again (just a precaution)...
    *Reset personal settings
    *Reload NAV data

Whether the SD card with the software update file needs to be installed before or after the unit is up and running will depend on the software version that is in the unit now.

I would make sure that the *.bin file loaded onto the SD card fist as Rickie described, then try it before the unit is powered on and if it does not work: pop the SD card out and put it right back into the unit while it is still on and running. Can’t go wrong this way and it won’t hurt the unit either way.

If it still will not load try performing a FULL (not quick) format on the SD card and load the software again or try another SD card.

The .bin file is pretty small...most any size SD Card can be used...

Although there is no "official" requirement of other contents on the SD Card ....it is frequently recommended to have nothing else on the SD Card except the .bin file of the software version the unit will be updated to...

The largest software update file that I have seen for the 998 units is less than 38KB in size, so even a 1GB memory card is way, way more storage room than you need.
