Humminbird should continue to support these units for years to come. They still support the 997.

I am still on the search for the "perfect" finder for my boat. I had it in mind to buy an elite 7. Well that one didn't give me the warm and fuzzies after I started researching. Then I decided on the 898c and they were discontinued, But there are several online that are discounted. I found 948.00 shipped. Is there any reason not to jump on this? Even though they are discontinued? I mean humminbird 899 doesn't really compare...

No reason not to. I bought a 998 and glad I did.

I bought my 898 from...

...who I believe is a forum sponsor. Got a great price, but don't see them listed anymore. Might give them a call.

I have a used 898 that I plan to sell when my 1198 gets here if interested
898 leftover will most likely be found on eBay or other small stores. Something to keep in mind with the 899 is that it is just a larger version of the 798, only having the smaller compact side image transducer. Only having the 455khz transducer. Images will not be as crisp as the older 898 and 998 which have the hi def 455/800khz transducer. I believe you can switch the compact transducer thru Humminbird transducer exchange program by paying the difference of the two ducers.

The 899 will support it, but it's a 75.99 transfer plus shipping! I'm either going 898 or 998 today!
