Call Brian at BBG, he is in the member sponsors classified.
If the description of the model has a X in it that means no GPS. Good luck, great units.

I am in the market for the elite-7 HDI and I have been asking the question to sales associates of different stores and I keep getting different answers. The $599 model does not have gps, the $699 model does and so does the the $799 model but I was told by a Cabelas sales rep today that it will read deeper on the down imaging and thats the only difference.
So I need from the pros the true difference between the 699 and 799 model. I fish inland lakes and may venture out a short distance on Lake Erie. I like to troll cranks off planer boards and tight line or push, as some of you call it, jigs and minnows for crappie. The deepest I would be is maybe 80-100 ft

Look at the watts or power on all the models, they should be the same, using the RMS value. Peak power doesn't mean much, its more advertising hype. For only $100 more, go with the gps unit, and I don't believe it would affect the units ability to read the depths you mentioned.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
What Rees said call Brian he will walk you through them and make sure you get the right one. With out looking it up I think the 799 model your talking about is the Gold series which is loaded with costal maps and set up for salt water depths which you don't need. PLUS Brian is going to beat in box store pricing.

Yeah, I think the most expensive model just includes mapping whereas the cheaper unit does not. Like a previous poster stated, the included mapping seems to be geared toward salt water fishing.
the Rep told you the truth about depth but from what I see the $799 model would give you the DI capabilities and the $699 model would not have DI capabilities!!!,if you look on Cabelas site its shows!!!
1,000-ft. depth capability with 83/200kHz
699.00
300-ft. depth capability with 455/800kHz DownScan
799.00

strmwalker- The $599 model is GPS/ broadband only. The $699 is GPS/2D/ DI. The $799 Has all three but has the 50/200 transducer. I have the $699 model. Bought from BBG Marine. Talk to Brian, he will set you straight and give you a better price and great ship time. Check the Cabelas catalog, page237 or Lowrance web site under Elite products..... Good luck....crappie1133
I took everyones advice and called Brian and got some great information about the units and what will work for me. He also helped me on the issue of SD card upgrade maps which was a big help. I do have say this sight has been a huge help with getting me good quality information that really works. It's amazing how much more fun fishing is when it's done right.
Thanks All
P.S. Elite-7 HDI ($699 model) fully installed and working great.
