Default Thinking about Lowrance Elite HDI-7X

This is the model without the GPS. I have the 1198C for that and side scanning. But I want to use a something while anchored and from all the reviews this one model seems to fit the bill exactly.

Anyone have anything to say about this particular model. Please no Low vs Bird arguments needed. Obviously I don't have a bias myself.

Just looking for opinions on this one model and if it is accurately described by its maker.

Will be excellent for what you are wanting to do with it. I got one with the GPS when they first came out and my only complaint with it was the internal GPS, aside from that it was a great unit. Sold it pretty quick because I didn't want to spend the extra on a 4000 puck and the NEMA wiring, thinking about getting another one since I now have everything I need to use the 4000.
Bright and clear screen, best I have seen for the money.

From what I have seen it is an excellent option. Clarity on that unit is great. Depending on your eye sight the new 5 series they just came out with might be worth looking at since it's a little cheaper. I have a 998 and have been thing about doing the same thing.

I just got the same unit you are looking at. The more I use it the better I like it. If I had to do it again, I'd get the GPS.

hays47, Ihave a Elite 7 HDI, although I am not into waypoints and etc., I do have the GPS and I debated on whether or not to get the GPS. I ended opting to get the GPS after recomendations from others on this board. Glad I did. Very helpful in determining boat speed when trolling or spider rigging and I always have the option of marking waypoints if I so desire. I have my TD mounted on the trolling motor e/w TD protector. This unit has a BIG screen , is nice and bright, and can show GPS, 2D, and DI all at the same time. 2D and DI can be shown split screen or over and under and makes comparisions easy. Regardless of your choice you will like this unit. Have fun....crappie1133

In my opinion it is an excellent choice for a unit in this price category. It is an easy unit to use with a lot of options to choose from that is found on the higher end units . Highly recommend this unit.
Most of my money is spent on fishing, fishing tackle and boats, the rest is wasted.
