Just now got back on the water after some down time due to boat and health.
Had trouble with interferance on a new installed HB 587 unit that HB said needed a new power cord so they sent it and after 2 months down I got out and checked it and it works. ALSO:
Had problems with the HB 997 si dropping GPS connection several times thru the day. Rickie and others helped guide me and HB all suggested I upgrade the unit to the 6300 and put in one of the new pucks that was suppose to speed up things to lessen the "donut" problem too. So I bought the new puck and put in on the boat and today everything worked great. I had a lot on my plate today so I didn't pay much attention to the donut because I was more interested in the 587 I had installed up front and checking the Universal sonar on the Terrova. Personal preferance is no to the universal sonar if you want a down imaging or side imaging unit on the front and that is what I want.
Anyway, I am back in business and if I can stay some what healthy I will get to fishing more and catching some. Thanks to everyone who helped me through this mess with the electronics. Ferdi

I think it was the AS GRP Puck that was to take out the donut effect and as long as you had the unit updated to the 6300 the puck would speed the thing up to let you operate the boat at a lower speed and it woul still show your position and you could get on the brush pile easier????? I am hoping it has done the job and will check it out better the next trip out. Thanks again. Ferdi
I think the AS GRP will still have the donut even with any of the new software versions...although this antenna is supposed to be a step above the old AS GR50 (and way above the AS GR16) that you may have had before...(I would imagine your problem before was a bad connector or wire in the old style antenna)..
To get the donut to go away completely...you would need the new AS GPS HS antenna which has a "Heading Sensor" (a magnetic compass basically) ...that allows the unit to know which way the boat is "pointing" at all times...
I'm trying to find out if this AS GPS HS antenna will work with your 997...(so don't order it yet if you're thinkin about it...I will post as soon as I find out)...

What you posted is correct Rickie.
That's a "NO" on the As-GPS-HS for the 997 unit. It does not have the software support needed for the GPS-HS Receiver.
Now I am confused, here is what I was told by Greg and I bought the AS-GRP puck like he suggested and upgraded the 997 si unit to the 6300 and now I am told it isn't right????? Let's start the PM and I will give you my phone numbers and lets talk this over. Ferdi
Ferdi,
Don’t worry about wearing out your welcome with the Customer resource folks. Call them back about the PC-11 power cable. It may be getting shipped separately or it may have been left out of the box. My guess is a different shipment but call them to be sure.
As for the As-GRP and your 9978 unit: this GPS Receiver will work but only if your 997 unit is running the last 6.300 software update.

I apoligise for the last rant. I see the confusion was brought on when the "HS" was added to the numbers. Greg I am sorry for the jump on my part but please see the added HS to my original post about the AS GRP Puck. After posting this apoligy to H Bird Greg it would please me if a moderator would remove my rant completely so I don't confuse anyone else. Ferdi
I don't think it's necessary to remove the post...
All these different units and accessories and software versions are confusing...to say the least...
The bottom line here is that you did get the "best" GPS puck for your 997....(the AS GRP...and it does need a minimum software version 6.300 to work in your 997...and 6.300 is the "latest" available software version for the 997)...
The AS GPS HS antenna is one step above the AS GRP ...simply because it has the added "heading sensor" in it...but it will not work in the 997...(because their is no software version for the 997 available to operate the AS GPS HS antenna with "heading sensor"...
So..all is good Ferdi...you have the best GPS antenna that is compatible with your 997...
Maybe HB will come out with an new software version for the 997 to operate the the AS GPS HS antenna (with heading sensor)....but I doubt it ...because the 997 is Legacy now....

No apology necessary Ferdi. The different GPS Receiver names get as confusing as the unit names sometime (there is no GRP-HS model GPS Receiver). I don’t know where your original post about the AS-GRP is at.
For future reference:
AS-GRP needs 6.300 or higher version software
AS-GPS-HS needs 6.570 or higher version software
The unit also has to be compatible with this accessory. Some units may receive these (or higher) levels of software but may still not be compatible. An example of this would be the 598ci HD Si unit which currently uses a software version of 6.640 but it is not compatible with either the GRP or GPS-HS GPS Receivers.
Hi Guys
I'm looking at getting a 998c hd si pretty soon and you've got me wondering...Which puck ships in the box with the 998? I've looked on the HB site and don't see that info. Thanks.
