    Default Humminbird 798 ci hd si issues please help


    I was running down my home lake one day my unit was working fine then it shut itself off (which happened before due to a loose power connection which I fixed) when I turned it back on all I got was a black screen with a green lettered menu. The menu was a list of keyboard checks backlight checks etc. no matter what I try to do it will not do anything but bring up this menu. I really hope someone on here knows what this is and how (hopefully not if) it can be fixed. The unit it is only a year and I half old I don't want to have to buy another one. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Have you removed it from it's mount and reinstalled it? Sometimes you need to cut power to the unit completely for it to restart. H/B has a set price for repairs to your unit if it has to go back to the factory. Much cheaper than buying a new unit. Turn around time is pretty quick too!

    Did this occur while you were on the lake?
    Was the unit in the middle of an software update when it lost power?

    Yes i was running from one spot to another when it shut off. I don't think it was in the middle of an update. I was running my gps and switch fire split screened when it shut off. I didn't see anything about an update

    Yes I have taken it off the mount multiple times. I still keep getting the same screen. I didn't know humminbird did repairs like that. Thanks for that tip

    if you were doing a software update you would have had to have downloaded it to an sd card and then placed that sd card into the unit. If the unit was updating the software and it lost power during the update this could occur.


    If its not going past the Matrix Boot screen , then I would recommend that the unit be sent in for service. Details regarding service can be found at the link below:

    Thanks I did email the humminbird service thing I just haven't heard back yet (it was only yesterday so I didn't expect it yet I was just hoping for a quick fix posting on here) so I guess I'll sent it in as soon as I can

    While HB does respond to emails...you will get much faster service by calling HB CRC...

    I got a reply from humminbird yesterday about 3:00 I was actually surprised at how quickly I got it. They say the screen I had was the matrix boot screen and is locked in super user mode which has to be sent in for reprogramming which they said was like $60 some. I didn't think that was too bad. Also they say what causes this when 2 buttons are held together simultaneously or a button gets stuck and held in for a long period of time. Now I know to check this from time to time to make sure buttons aren't getting stuck. Overall I'm very happy with the humminbird customer service.
