Default trolling motor 898c or 958c

What would anyone else do. is there any benefit of having si on trolling motor. I plan on getting a ipilot link would that drive straight enough to use a si or just go with a di. also is the pic better with just di than the si.

DI advantage is picking apart structure directly under the boat and out to the sides a few feet...

SI advantage is spotting (and waypoint marking) structure 100+ feet out to the sides of the boat...

Pick the technology that best suits your sonar need at the bow...

SI on the trolling motor is not that hard to accomplish...

Ive got the 898 now and its a non hd and hard to see in the sun. I think for the same or less money I can get the 958 hd and will suit me better and can always turn the 898 on the bow around and see it if need be

I have a 958 on the TM, and a 1198 at the helm. Works good for me. As Rickie stated above, I scan while driving on the SI and then use the DI up front.

I have an iLink Terrova and use it with 998 SI on the bow with a 858 DI on the helm. I'm learning to use the split screens to get the multiple views. The biggest thing I'm learning is that none of these FF are set and forget. As the conditions change so do the settings on the unit need to be adjusted. But the more I play with it and learn the shortcuts they adjustments can be made in a matter of seconds.
The other piece I use and am happy with is mounting the transducer for the 998 on a Po'Dunk mount on the bow.

Hey tsaints1115, what is a "Po'Dunk"? How does that work? I have my iLink/898 mounted on my PD V2 and worry about twisting the transducer cord off. I have already scuffed it pretty bad.

i looked up the po dunk looks pretty sweet. I would make one improvement on it and it would be even better.

im not a user but it caught my attention. have you thought about putting a break away on the bottom foot of it making it springloaded so if you hit something it will just kick back and then reset itself ?

What kind of adjustments do you speak of, we have a 898 combo, and I have always thought a few adjustments need to be made but have never done them.
