Off the top of my head, having been fishing strip mine lakes lately, is to change the max bottom setting on the fly. I'll go from out in the middle where its 60 ft to along the shore where I'll be in 20 ft. So I'll pull up the "quick menu" for the screen and bump the bottom setting till its at lake depth + 5 ft or so. Another is th SI width. Out in the open I'll have it at 50-60 ft or so. Up along the shore I'll narrow it up to 20 or so. I'm still new to these high end FF so the more I play with it the more I learn. Worse comes to worse and I get myself in a corner I just go to factory default and start over.
As far as clfarms idea. I just used the factory HB transducer mount but put it on the backside of the Po'Dunk mounting plate instaead of the front. This was mearly a personal choice as I'll go shallow with my mod-v a lot and I prefered the aluminum plate to lead the way. Also the way the Po'Dunk is mounted on my boat the trolling moter skeg will hit long before the transducer unless I go in at a radically stupid angle and I would never do that.
