Letter “x” means that it is without GPS, and there is no SD slot aswell. Normally they cost about 30% less, than with GPS option.

Is this unit gps capable or not??? The instructions say the unit has an antenna but I don't find any settings, or any mention of gps. Supposed to have a card slot also. Can't find one of those either. I'm really not "electronically challenged" but this has me really confused.

Check those "instructions" .... and see if they're for the E4xDSI ONLY, or in combination with other Elite or Mark versions.
Vik3 is correct ... the "x" means there is no GPS (therefore no need for a card slot).
Here's what you need to know : http://www.lowrance.com/Root/Lowranc...0149-001_w.pdf
(pay no attention to the fact that the E5xDSI unit, at the top of the Operations Manual, shows a "Chart/GPS" function .... IT DOESN'T have that capability !! The split screen image, shown on that unit, is the generic picture from a E5DSI unit ... a slight oversight on Lowrance's part)
