Default Yard sale find,,,,, Fishermaster DP 5

Well,,, went to a local church rummage sale this past weekend and found a brand new, never been out of box, DP5 Fishmaster depth/ fish finder,,,,, anyone have an opinion if these are dinosaurs and unusable for modern day fishing boats? I remember seeing these on alt of boats back in the 70,s back home on cape cod,,,,, Can these still be used today, Or just toss it?

I'd say it would work ... but, it would likely be a 2d sonar with pixel count so low that it would probably only be useful for depth (which is what most '70s depth finders were, anyway).

It could be a collectors item ... so I'd research that avenue.

It could look good in a shelf/shadow box type display ... if you have a talent for that kind of thing.

There is no reason you couldn't use it. But like Pappy said, it will have very low resolution.

Come to think of it, I think we had one on our old 70's Sportscraft fishing boat back in the day,,,, great for depth like you stated,,, but hard to see any fish unless they were directly under the boat,,,, might make a nice piece to hang in my man cave,,,, lol

That's what I'd do with it. I have one of the first HB LCD units useless for anything but depth. I have a few old finders and I was thinking about building a display shelf to install them on by time period. Few years ago went by a dumpster at work, found a like brand new Lowrance Green box finder and tackle box full of lures from the 50's. Some one must have been cleaning out after an older fisherman passed.
Don't throw it away if you decide not to keep it. Hit me up and I'll come get it.
