hummingbird blank screen

I recently acquired a hummingbird 170 from a friend the other day. Got it installed and decided to test it. When i turned it on the back lighting lite up and you can hear the buttons chirp when pressed but the screen shows nothing. I was wondering if this is something i or a tech can fix or if its not worth messing with. the friend said he never had a problem with it. ( friend replaced it due to upgrading his equipment.)

How long has he had it stored and where? I have killed a couple of screens from high heat. Had them on a covered boat and left in the sun for several months. Everything worked but blank screen. Might try cleaning contacts and trying again.if dosnt work they can't be repaired cheap enough to warrant it.

Thanks for the info! I believe he kept it in the house. He used it just a couple months ago and started remodeling his boat.

I would make sure that it is being powered by a known good 12-volt battery and that all electrical connections are clean and tight (soldered preferably). Don’t forget to check the fuse and fuse holder too.
