    Default Waas gps

After reading some replys in another thread about " handheld GPS", I have a question. Several people replied that the GPS worked better at faster speeds. I used gps before WAAS GPS came around with a "old" handheld lowrance 212 (no WAAS). I was following creek channels and tracks {at very slow speeds} that I had created stopping at waypoints on structure. Typical spider rigging style of fishing. I never had "much" of a problem with the gps "jumping around". I could get right on my waypoints and stay on my track. I now have a Lowrance Ifinder, It seems much harder to get on the way points and stay on the tracks at very slow speeds.

Finally, my question! Does the WAAS have anything to do with this problem at slow speeds and staying on tracks?

WAAS is basically the signal error correction capability of the GPS system that provides more accuracy.

You can turn it off or on. You can still get 3d gps without WAAS. I disable WAAS sometimes when the dumb bell flashes on my HDS map.

Try it both ways and find out.

Cane Pole, thanks! On another subject, how would you compare the latest navionics maps to Pat Hahs maps. . I have been out of touch with this type of fishing for several years. I have "faith" and experience
in his mps and may want to start fishing Ky Lake again. When I quit fishing Ky lake, I was using a PDA, Handheld gps, Ozi and Pats maps.
What type of device can I use today with Oziexplorer and Pats maps?

Pat's maps are more defined in the scanned areas. I use his maps for making routes or trails and upload this to my HDS. I still have my PDA, but I also have a daylight viewable tablet which I use on occasion. Most time I use The Lowrance Insight map on a SD card. It has lots more detail than the installed Insight maps on my HDS.

Was having problems with my handheld until I realized it needed to be stationery. The darn thing records every move I make. I set it down on my buddies console and my problems went away. Now I am in the process of buying a ram mount.
    Good Luck Fishing.
