Default VGA Video Monitor For HB 1198 si

I want to add a Monitor to the front of my boat to be able to view my HB 1198 si which is mounted on the console. Having to turn around is a pain in the neck (Literally) I have been doing some research and know I will need the VC-1 cable from Humminbird. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and any suggestion on type of monitor to get? I did a search on here but didn't come up with anything. I put a VGA monitor but's a RCA monitor I need.

This has been discussed many times on the various SI forums...(I use the video out to sometimes review recordings at home on my 27in Sony Bravia)...

Your biggest hurdle will be finding a monitor that is waterproof and sunlight viewable....

They are more expensive than buying a second unit....

(You are correct that the input on the monitor must be RCA video input)...

I have a 3210 Garmin. It has composite video in. It will work and can adjust the brightness and other stuff associated with composite. This unit has RCA too, but you can get a RCA cable for the HB.

What you got to trade? This is a 10 inch screen. The unit has an external GPS 17 antenna that also works.

I ment to say the RCA jack has nothing to do with the signal. The signal is a composite signal which is what the 1198 outputs.

Yellow RCA is usually, but not always, associated with composite video.

Thanks rnvinc - The biggest hurdle will be water proof & view-able. I may have to come up with a red neck solution to that. Not sure how but working on it. I like the screen shot on TV, at least it's a good picture but thinking more like a 10" - 12" on boat. All of the marine type monitor prices are about the same price range as a new fish finder for sure.

CanePole - I like what you have but I'm a hoarder. I got a bunch of stuff but just can't get rid of anything to trade. The price is a bit more than i would like to spend on this project. I gotta save my coins for the HB 360 & I-Link. I was looking at Garmin, among others last night. That's probably what I should get but will try to come up with a cheaper solution. The HB AC-1 cable is only 6 ft long so that will be another problem being it's a bit over that from console to bow. Thanks for the response though.

Ever since SI hit the angling market ....I've seen this very same question come up dozens of times over the various SI forums I frequent every day...

Users wanting 2 viewing stations on the water by using the "video out" feature of the HB units...

I have yet to know of (or remember) any of those with this question to have a suitable and cost effective solution ...

I even remember 1 poster built a waterproof clear Lexan box to put his second "unwaterproof" monitor in...

Every solution I remember posted ended costing more than just buying a second unit...

It will be interesting to see your solution...you may actually be the 1 solution to this query that all future questions about a second cost effective sunlight viewable waterproof monitor may get referred to...

Please post pix and results of your venture as you progress with your ideas....

    I enjoy "redneck ingenuity"....

You should get to know some folks that work for electrical contractors for process industries. They constantly upgrade old weather proof dc monitors. Not sure what they do with the old ones, but you might be able to get one for a real good price.

If you live in an area with a lot of industry, I bet if you ask around at the boat ramp, you'll find a couple of crappie fisherman that do this for a living.

Default VGA Video Monitor For HB 1198 si

Never thought of that. My uncle who is an Electrical Engineer who does a lot of work building / rebuilding power plants and such. He is also a crappie fisherman. I'll have to give him a call when I get off work. Thanks for the advise.

I have looked into the these type displays before. You really gotta do a lot of rigging to use one. Expensive, even used. I have been thru this before. This is my daylight viewable tablet Good Luck.
