Default Pros and Cons hds 7 touch vs HB 998 hd SI

Ok im close as Ill ever be to choosing between these 2 units I need all the pros and cons on them I hate bringing this back up but Id really like a biased opinion from yall ,Ive talked to Brian and I know where Ill buy it but please help ,this is a big decision and a costly one,Which unit can I do more with ,which one is more user friendly, which one is more bang for my buck, the only draw back is the touch im afraid of using it in the rain .Id like one With with good resolution, for daylight use,can stand up to the elements,2 card slots is a must.Easily removed fron the boat when not in use ,can you guys tell me how big the transducers are dont want to knock it off the back of my boat. And most of easily installed on my boat ,I have a 1652 aluminum Polar Kraft. Thanks

You may as well make your own decision. The Low guys like their stuff, the HB guys like their stuff so that must tell ya something. I only ever saw 1 guy lately who openly ever said they would switch.
Personally I like Low and if I didn't already have HDS Gen1 I would be buying 2 of the biggest HDS Touch that I could afford. Honestly though, thats just me. Since so many folks like both units either way you go, you'll be happy with what ever you buy.

Default Pros and Cons hds 7 touch vs HB 998 hd SI

I'll echo the same. Both are great units, with loyal followings. I personally have two HDS-7's and think their down scan offers better resolution. Birds are good units too, maybe a little easier to navigate menu's. I'd probably just camp out at a store where both units are displayed and wear them both out. Base your decision on which you like best. Good luck with the purchase.

It really is a ford/Chevy thing! Best advice is take a ride with someone close to you that has each kind and then make your decision. If you were in Oklahoma we could get that done this weekend! I'm sure there are plenty of guys that would take you for a ride where you live. Good Luck.

I would like to try to address a couple of the questions and concerns you have with making your choice. First you said that having two card slots is a must, the HDS 7 Touch only has one sd card slot. You would have to get the 9 or 12 to get two slots. Secondly you should know that the 7 Touch has the stucture scan functions (side scan, down imaging) built in but a LSS transducer is required. The dimensions of the LSS transducer is 2.1"W x 2.8"H x 10.8"L. I would not worry at all about the Touch units being affected by rain. I would strongly encourage you to research all the information you can about the two units and go to a store and check out how they work and what their capabilities are. These toys are not cheap and you want to end up with a product that you will feel comfortable with.

    Low Touch...
*2d comes from supplied HDS Xducer
*DI/SI comes from the additional LSS Xducer
*Low DI has dedicated Xducer crystals for DI in the LSS xducer..

    HB 998c HD SI Combo
    *2d/SI/DI all in 1 xducer
*Computer generates it's DI image from the SI crystal's data...

The Humminbird HDSi transducer that comes with the 998c HD Si Combo unit is approximately 3 inches wide by 6 inches long.
