I put a stereo on my pro team 170. Have the red power wire and the yellow memory wire both hooked up to the battery. Battery was dead in two weeks. Should I hook the red wire up to a switch and leave the yellow on the battery. will this still kill the battery? I would like to keep the memory hooked up but not at the expense of my battery. Any suggestions?

I think you want the red wire to a fused/switch on post on your fuse block and the yellow to battery
you should check with a stereo installer to be sure, its been many moons since my last stereo install

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
The yellow wire is going to draw current all the time if not switched off.

A long time ago in a city far, far away… Okay it was a long time ago and the city was not that far away, but I worked at The Car Stereo Shop in B’Ham. We never powered anything unless it was through a fuse. Even though I did installs on cars the same thing applies: fuse both the red and yellow wires. You also may want to wire the red wire through a main or accessory power switch (the stereo has a power switch that works to).
+1 on the battery charger.
