Hey guys,
I know I really should not be talking junk but I feel its for a good reason. I just bought the Humminbird Pmax170 depth/Fish finder new in the package unopened . I got a heck of a deal form Pawn way yes a pawn shop here in Lexington Nc I hooked it all up and it was saying I was in 23ft of water when I was in only 5ft I checked with my fishing rod. So I sent it back to humminbird to be fixed well it came back yesterday the shop work order said (No problem found) So today I hooked it back up and took my boat out again in the rainand it was doing the same thing plus when I was underway it said I was in 543ft.... (I was like What!!!!) If any of you guys know High rock lake is know were even close to 543ft. So I sent them a email saying that the dang thing was not fixed and they have two choices ether seen me a shipping label to sent it back to be fix sense they did not fix it the first time or send me a new unit that work. and I also told them that I more than likely will not ever buy another Humminbird product. It has been a such bad experience if I would hit hit a rock would humminbird fix my boat (I think not) It looks like if there product malfunctioned and you hit a rock and busted the hull they would have to fix it. If they do not fix it this time I am calling the Better Business Bureau.
Guys,
This is just a warning I don't any of you guy to have do what I'm having to do now.
Was your transducer positioned correctly? Exactly how fast is "underway"? Sometimes you won't get a good depth reading if you transducer is set too high up.
Underway I mean like 20-35mph the transducer is correct about two three inch above the bottom of the boat so it does not get hit by trash (logs ) in the water. Thank's for your reply
Per the manual on page 11, you have the transducer set too high. When you're underway, the transducer does not have enough water underneath it therefore having turbulent water causing incorrect readings. Re-adjust and try again.
If possible, post a picture your install from behind and to the side. I would like to see the bottom edge of the boat from both angles.
There's no guarantees that that will work for you. Is it an aluminum or fiberglass boat? Possible with fiberglass but I don't know if that transducer will work like that. And for sure that transducer will not shoot thru aluminum.
I still want a picture. Unless you run through a lot of stumps, I would not worry too much.
