    Default Waypoint management

Ok guys i have two lowrance units and have waypoints with names ending in () for example 152 (2). I know there is a 152 wypt and hence the (2). Question is how do u guys manage your wypts to prevent this from happening. I would like to reorganizs all my wypts but have over 1000. I would like to just have renamed in sequential order. Any way of doing this? What are u using to manage yours with?

I always go in and rename mine in stead of numbers. Such as S for stump or B for brush and SK for stakebed. And if I catch good fish on them, I will usually put Good or best in the name somewhere.

Both Lowrance and Humminbird have software to manage waypoints. I like ExpertGPS (3rd party software), and there's a free version that's good if you don't want all the map functions. For me, easier to download, rename, and upload to the units than it is to rename them on the units.

I gave up trying to keep crap in order. I have 15 years of waypoints (prob 8000)... I allow same number waypoints. I have 10 waypoints #20. ha .... I find it best to use different Icons. The red dot means hot. The American flag means glory hole, etc.

When I put out a brush pile, I mark it with a red flag icon. Not the best system, but my typing and organizing skills suck.

If your GPS allows names? I use the names on my GPS. Each area I fish that is in the same depth of water has a similar name & number. For example tree matt area are named for different trees, maple, oak, red oak, pine, etc, etc. In the soda pop area coke, pepsi, sprite, etc, etc. in the bible matt area Job, Ezra, etc, in the car matt area chevy, ford, nissan, etc. you get the picture I'm sure. Also each named area has a 3 digit number. For example the soda pops may begin with 100, 101, 102, etc. The cars may begin with 200, 201, 202, etc. Now if i put a new matt in between say 100 and 101 , i use 101a, or 101b, etc . I find I can remember names a lot better than numbers

Cool idea. I have been using easy gps software to separate each lake. I then can go in an label the entire lake and just import the lake when i fish it. This keeps duplicates from forming and the wypts are a lot easier to modify on the computer. Also it has a feature to view the wypt online view satellite image. If i remember the software was free and uses gpx exchange format. I keep the lakes on a sd card and when power up the unit on the lake i import wypts. At end of day i save all wypts and can view on computer if i found new stuff.
