Humming bird Piranah Max under $100
Is it any good ? I am not a computer whiz and have looked at some screen shots from more expensive units . I have no clue what I am looking at .
These units have fish symbols that I can read . Will it be worthwhile to get one ,or would I be just as well off fishing ''blind'' ?
If you can afford it get a hb 998 or comprable unit if you wont
more than water depth, have had the cheap ones but friends
have the expensive ones and they find fish if you put in the
time and learn how to read it.
CatFan is right, any unit is better than no unit.If you can find a second hand unit that someone has up graded to getting them a bigger unit would be much helpful.Any decent unit will find brush as good and in my opinion faster than side units, I have both and find most brush on 2d sonar at 10 -20 mph. Old brush will not show up on side units good unless you are almost stop or it has BIG BRANCHES or in shallow water. Now I know some will say different but everyone wants us to believe they have a little better unit than others
God Demonstrated his love for us.Romans 5:8
Earl if 100.00 is your budget then get it like Catfan said anything iis better than nothing. I promise you when you start using that little unit it won't be long until you start saving for a better unit. Most of the less expensive units do not require a education in electronics engineering to operate. That unit will help you find variations in depth, creek channels and brush piles you never new were there.

$100 bucks is a good bit of money for me . A used unit at over a grand isn't in the cards . Cray , that was kinda what I was hoping for . Right now all mine shows is depth . I am using that and a contour map and sometimes it seems there has to be a better ,economical way . Thanks for the replies .
Try to look at the HB 570 before you buy. I had a smaller one very similar to what you stated and was very disappointed in it. The 570 isn't tons of bucks, and can be had with down imaging also. If that is all the budget will stand then that is the right choice, but I have an older version (565) as do several friends and we are all very happy with them. Just my 2 cents, good luck with it.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I have the humminbird piranha max and a lowrance x-4 pro on the same boat, they both do exactly what I need to know, the depth, The piranha has a better looking display
than the x-4 but the x-4 reads in inches rather than just feet. That way you know when you are going shallower or deeper by the depth reading, if you are in 4 foot of water
with the piranha it will only read 3 foot if going shallow or 5 feet going deeper. The x-4 will read 4.6 feet then 4.8 as you go into deeper water and that is important to me.
Another thing that is important to me is that the x-4 will read in much shallower water than the piranha, the x-4 will read shallow water down to about 1.5 feet with no problem
the piranha starts blinking in water less than about 3 feet. I use these on my shallow water boat, normally from two to five feet of water. Both units cost about the same
and both works well for what they are.
I have deen buying hummingbird a long time. Most died quikly. Now I use lowrance. No problem except for a couple of eagles.
