Default Lowrance hds5 help please !!!

Have a Lowrance HDS5 that was working well today, but the screen froze. Powered it off, but now when you power it back on it brings up the Lowrance main screen with scrolling bar at bottom of screen, white tab scrolls across the screen one time then unit locks up and will not do anything else. None of the buttons will work. Unit will not power back off, only way to power it off is turning off main power switch on boats console.
My boat maybe old, but shes still... FAST !!

There is another feature that is incorporated in the unit’s operating software. It is the RESET feature.

Resetting internal software sometimes clears up such clichés as you describe. There are two ways of resetting the software in a HDS -5 unit.

The Soft Reset (Does not delete GPS Data) and the Hard Reset (Deletes stored GPS Data such as Waypoints and trails)\
    Soft RESET HDS 5 Reset

    1. Turn unit OFF 1. Press and hold the PAGES key

    2. Press and hold the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at the same time.

    3. Press and Release the PWR key

    4. Release all buttons when the USA map appears

Soft Reset (Does not delete GPS Data) Hard Reset (Deletes stored GPS Data such as Waypoints and trails)

Hard Reset (Deletes stored GPS Data such as Waypoints and trails)

    HDS 5 Reset

    1. Turn unit OFF

    2. Press and hold the PAGES key. Press and hold the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at the same time

    3. Press and Release the PWR key 3. Press and Release the PWR key

    4. Release all buttons when the USA map appears

Other reset procedures may differ for other types of GPS units.

Check the Lowrance web site for a complete listing all Lowrance units

Save your info to an SD card before you do a hard reset.

A Humminbird screen will lock up like that with low voltage. Usually occurs when starting the main motor with the unit on. Not sure Lowrances could be effected the same way, but it wouldn't hurt to check the voltage to the unit. Those glass inline fuses are notorious for voltage problems, and check any other connections too.

My HDS would reboot sometimes while cranking,. I put all my electronics on a separate battery. No problem sense then. I have a 35AH U1 SLA type for my electronics.

Just a thought but I always like to overlay the voltage on my screens just so I'm aware how much juice is still in the batteries. Your bow unit will always show a little lower because of voltage drop but at least you have some idea if the battery is getting too low to operate your electronics (and maybe start your motor)
