    Default No GPS on 797c2

I lost my Gps on my 797. It doesn't say no connection or anything like that, just no GPS anywhere. Not when I scroll the screens or when in the menu. Cleaned connections and such but know luck. It is on my simulator mode though, but didn't notice if it was showing a correct reading while in simulator. I have use my unit in the house with no puck connected to add waypoints, I don't know what it could be. Is it my puck or what. Please help!!

Does the status screen say the GPS is "connected" ....??

Is the GPS plugged directly into the unit or thru an Interlink...??

Can you try your unit on someone else's boat with a 797c...??
Can you try someone else's 797c on your boat...??
(I think I remember Greg saying to only try this with a AS GR16 unit..)

Did this happen soon after any changes to your setup...?? Software update..?? Moving antenna..?? 1st use after long term storage...??

    Try this...

    Power on the unit..
While the welcome screen is showing... Press "Menu" on the unit face...
Of the 3 options... Cursor down to "System Status"..
Cursor right to enter "System Status"...
Press "View" on the unit face to get to the "Accessories" screen...

Does the GPS show "Connected" or "Unconnected"...??

    Rickie,
You are right on with only using a GR16 GPS Receiver with the 797 units.

    bttmline,
Try what Rickie suggested and see if the unit is showing the GPS Receiver as “CONNECTED” or “UNCONNECTED”. If “UNCONNECTED” try checking the NMEA pigtail wire for a short. This is the shorter (12 inch) second wire that comes out of the GPS Receiver connector. It should have a small black cap on the end of it. Remove this cap and separate the Red, White and Black wires. Power your unit on again and see if the GPS Receiver is shown as “CONNECTED” and starts to work or not. If it does, trim and seal the wires so that they cannot short to each other or anything on the boat. If it does not start working, then there is no way to know if the problem is in the GPS Receiver (“puck”) or in the unit itself. You could take the chance that the problem is in the GPS Receiver (as it usually is) and buy a new one or send yours into Humminbird to be fixed or contact Humminbird (1-800-633-1468) and see about getting both your unit and GPS Receiver in to be fixed.

Well it says unconnected, so i did trimmed the NMEA tail back and separated the wires to insure there was no short. Still says unconnected so I guess I need to get a new one or get the old one checked. What does it cost to have it repaired or is it better to just by a new one??

Before you send it in to HB....

Check the male pins in the connector and the female pins in the unit...check for corrosion or missing pins...

Try bending the pins out "ever so slightly"...

Take the GPS connector (and the power wire connector) (you will not need the xducer for this test) out of the mounting bracket and plug them directly into the unit...wiggle the connector while watching the "Accessories" screen to see if you can get the unit to recognise the puck...

As Greg is following this thread, I'll input a question I don't know myself...

Can the 797 be tested (and/or operated) on the AS GR50...??
