Try taking the prop off and see if theres any line around the hub, Disconnect battery power and hook back up. Hope it helps.

I was trolling for crappie this week and my terrova 80 w/ipilot quit
I had been trolling about 4 hr at 1.5 mph and all of a sudden the terrova started surging it was shaking the front of the boat
I just assumed the batteries were getting low I checked the built in battery check and i showed it was 1/2 charge to make a long story short i called it a day and when i got home i charged batteries and took the boat back to the lake saturday to try it agin after i started the trolling motor it started surging again and then it just quit. When i turn it on with the remote it says it is running but the prop it not turning you can turn it by hand it is not locked up.Has any one else exprienced any thing like this.I troll fpr crappied 90 percent of the time and the motor is around 4 yrs old,do ou think it could be as simple as brushes worn out?

I'd bet that there is water in the motor housing. Likely culprit is line around the shaft messed up the seal.
How many hours of running time would you estimate?
I wrap line around the shaft fairly often, and before moving up to a 24v Terrova I drowned a few cheaper motors. Seals failed or bolts came loose. The Terrova's next trip will be #188 & there's no sign of seal problems. The seals in a Terrova are tough.
Yes I have it happen twice. Take the cover off the head cover and check where the main wires (the coiled ones) connect. They had put some light weight male & female connectors in there and they would get hot and not make good contact. I solved it by putting a round connector on the end of each wire then used a small nut and bolt to connect them. Prob solved. I hope this helps. I also thought my motor had gotten water in it but it was the wires.
It ain't nuttin but luck.
it has a lot of hours on it i troll a lot doesnt seem to be a seal problem i will check the wiring thanks

wonder if maybe it over heated and the brush holder plate melted some and caused the brushes to stop making contact? Ferdi aka Fred
