I was with Don when the DF lost its mind. We were deleting way point # 4 when it went nuts. It would add routes and tracks on its own. Then anything to do with Navigation completly vanished. No menus, no maps, zero. I think Don got a lemon. It happens.
xring, have you tried resetting to Factory Default?
Im not Don, but we tried that too.
I have a 798 si myself...ext. antenna not hd...I take my units off my boat so I have it at home... I also have a 110v power source with power cord. I just powered the unit up without the ant... no tab and no nav. screens. plug in spare ant and the tab and screens appear... unplug ant. and the tab and screens remain.
I got out on the lake one time and I didn't have any nav screens ....called HB my ant went out .....they replaced (under warranty)
I haven't been able to get in touch with the dealer, so I guess I'll try hummingbird....really disappointed at the moment.
You might not want to ad another cost onto a credit card, but if you don't mind, here's an alternative. Ask H/B that seeing how the unit is only a couple days old, would they ship you a new one immediately charging your credit card, then then once they receive your's back, credit the account. I've had them do that when I needed the unit ASAP.
Get that thing going ASAP, I need you to find me more brush piles so I dont have to buy a SI.
LOL at my friend rtark, my unit is on its way to Eufaula Alabama right now, I spoke with a very nice lady,,she had me go through the same steps you guys did last night. She agreed that it was indeed the GPS and was a internal defect, promised me it would be shipped back to me within 3-5 days of them recieving mine. I wish I could have said the dealer was so forthcoming as I still have not heard from him. I'll remember that when I order a 1198c....Just wanted to say thanks to you guys for the help last evening, it was much appreciated.

They should be able to get your unit worked on and on its way back to you pretty quick xring. Keep us informed as to when you get it back and if they fixed it or not.
