    Default Bought Hummingbird 597ciHD w/GPS

Bought the HB597ciHD/GPS and had heard that it comes with a "skimmer" but I can trade it for a Transducer thru HB web site. Now stupid question, what is the difference between "skimmer and "transducer" ? I plan on mounting on my Trolling mtr. Sorry for being ignorant, but thanks for your help.

both are the same--you have a skimmer transducer ie: made to skim across the water. It can be mounted on your TM, transom, or epoxied in the hull (on a glass boat) but if you can exchange for one specifically for mounting on the TM it would probably be best. You will like that unit. I use one and love it. Good Luck

Both are called transducers. Transducers come in a variety of styles. Transom mount, which is some times called a skimmer. Trolling motor mount which may be called a puck style. Shoot thru hull, which is glued inside the hull, and a thru hull, where a hole is bored through the hull to mount it. Most likely your unit came with a transom mount and H/B offers a trade in for a puck style trolling motor mount. They also sell a trolling motor bracket which would allow you to mount your transom mount transducer on a trolling motor. If you go to H/B's site, and search for products, they have pictures you could view.

If you can stand to wait, I would call Humminbird and setup to get your transom mount transducer exchanged for a trolling motor type transducer. 1-800-687-6613

I swapped my transom mount transducer for a trolling motor type and I'm glad I did.

The trolling motor transducer for DI units (XTM 9 DI 25 T) should be available around the middle of this month for the 300/500/700 series units and the end of August for the 800/900/1100 DI units (XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T)
