Imagine a $2000 transducer that is lower then your boat in the water. :yikes All kidding aside, I have not bought a LSSHD yet, and it's more likely that I'll buy the LSS-2 ducer and just switch them out. I will say that Rickard has opened up some new possibilities even for Lowrance owners.

Lowrance made it known from the beginning that the LSS-2 transducer would produce better images on a LSS-1 box than the LSS-1 transducer will.

What I really want to know, is if I could wire the down image connections to another transducer, so that I'm only using the side crystals. If that is Possible, I'd do it. I only need DI on the TM.

Or I'd really like the ability to turn off the DI when scanning.

IIRC one of the photos in the link identifies which pins in the plug are for the down scan, a person may be able to locate the wires in the bundle and put a switch in line to turn off the signal. Would it work? I don't know, only one way to find out.

After thinking about it, if Lowrance makes an extension cord for the transducer, that would be the way to do it and not take a chance on ruining the transducer.

You'd lose depth though. But yeah, that might work fine.

Just out of curosity, why would you want to turn off the DI?

I saw a post on somewhere else, where the poster covered the DI beam will closed cell foam tape, and was able to scan 2-3 further with clear results. I believe he was doing this to use on structure map. I'd like to do it to scan and watch later.

That was Per from Dr Depth. He made his own structures map sw before Lowrance had it. He recommends using a HB TD with that feature.

This has caused quite a stir, it has never been a secret that a longer TD should produce better images. However after reviewing the images that show the same thing with a HB TD and the LSS TD I'm not convinced that this really produced a consistent better image. Seems the first set of images the SI td picture is better and the second set the lss td has a very very minimal better image.

Rickard is one smart dude so I think as he has more time to work on it the results may consistently turn towards LSS TD producing some great images.
Rickard is the first to do polar projection as well. That was all post recording though and not on the water viewing.
