I'm curious as to the purpose of 2 xducers mounted on the transom ...??

Last year in October when I bought my new boat I went ahead and got a new HB 1198 to put up front. I already had a HB 798ci si that I put on the console. I figured what the heck bigger screen for some old eyes up front. I could never get good clarity on the 1198 like the 798 had even after one number at a time changing settings. And then the RF interference started when I had the Terrova running after I re-routed my transducer cable thought the slot on TM. I did that because day one of owner ship I almost cut the transducer cable when deploying. I read all about RF inference and was putting off having to re-rote power cables, etc to get it to go away. Well last week I decided I'd put the 1198 on the console & the 798 on the TM. Wha -La , no more RF inference on the 798 mounted on TM. The 1198 still picks up RF interference even on the console when the trolling motor is running. Not a big thing there because it doesn't with the main engine running. Problem solved as far as using trolling motor is concerned. I'm still puzzled why one would pick up the interference aand the other won't. Same everything hooked up. I'm thinking the 1198 w/ HD is much more sensitive that the 798 without HD. Oh well I'm happy with results and clarity on the 1198 is great now but I do run dual transducer on stern. Just thought that may be of interest to someone. Happy Fishing!!

I'm glad you are pleased with your new setup... Someday I may also venture into a two unit setup...
A couple of points I would like to share for the benefit of those interested...
1st ... The "HD" moniker that HB is now using is not an indication of an "HD" unit being clearer than a "Non HD" unit...HB uses the same pixel density in their units they always have... It was a marketing decision to add "HD" to the new model names because they already had the highest possible pixel density units on the market....
2nd ...it is entirely possible that some people can see am image clarity advantage of the 798 over the clarity of the 1198 due to the mathematical pixel density per square inch of the 2 separate units...
As seen below ...the 798 actually has more pixels per square inch than the 1198 does which could (repeat could ...dependant on each user's eyesight) be realized by some viewers as rendering clearer images...
The 798 has 31,170.5 pixels per square inch.
The 898 has 17,533.4 pixels per square inch
The 998 has 12,755.7 pixels per square inch
The 1198 has 8,858.2 pixels per square inch

I have a War Eagle 861 Predator. With the hull design a single transducer picks up a lot of turbulence that SI picks up easily. A friend of mine had purchased the same boat earlier and he came up with this solution before I even bought mine. I'm not totally technically challenged but he knows a sight more about it than I do. It works well so I am very happy with it.
