I'm thinking about doing the same thing so I'll be watching this closely. I have a MG but there's a couple issues I don't care for with it and am considering switching to Minn Kota but haven't totally made up my mind yet.

MK all the way. I have the PDv2 on a Ranger 354v 70lb thrust w/copilot and love it. Kinda wish I had gotten the Terrova but saved some bucks.
I too switched from an older MG classic. I jut think you get more with MK for the money-imho. Good luck.
The way I see it they are both good TM's.Right now I have a MG and like it but If I was going to buy a new TM I would 1st figure out what type I wanted. If I was looking for a cable steer I would buy a MG. If I were looking for a power drive I would ge MK.
I have used Motor Guide trolling motors for 30 years, until last year I decided to try the Minn Kota with I-pilot. I am been very satisfied with it in fact I dont use the foot control at all any more just the hand held remote. I love the spot lock feature and the advanced trail track. I am now totally a Minn Kota person.

i have used them both and in my opinion its minn kota all the way. the motorguides that i have used always came on the boat but after a while i would always replace them with a mk and was glad i did. i currently have the mk 80 terrova w/ipilot and love it.
Minn Kota Maxxum if you're a cable steer person or the PD2/Terrova if you want iPilot capabilitites. I have fished Motorguides for years but prefer the cable steer pedals on the Minn Kotas and like the mounts better.
Minn Kota Thumbs Up
I have tried a lot of different MGs over the years including 2 different versions of the PTS2v. Never again. I now use a MK Terrova with i-Pilot and love it plus I use to have a 70lb V1 with co-Pilot and auto-Pilot and it was a great motor. Going from MG to MK presents one problem in as much the hole pattern is not the same. So either you have to drill a few new holes or make or buy a mounting plate which would be better. Drill holes in the mounting plate to match your existing holes then mount the MK to the plate. In my opinion it would be worth it.
